IT ArchitectureWhat is architecture? The goal of IT Architecture is to ensure the alignment of information and communications technology to business strategy. A shared architectural approach allows "reusable best practice", defining a common set of technology patterns that all 500+ ICT staff across the University can use. This "community of practice" approach provides significant savings in the design, implementation and maintenance of ICT. How is architecture governed? The Monash IT Architecture Review (MITAR) Board provides the vision and ongoing direction for the architecture. The board regularly reviews the Monash IT Architecture (MITA) Document with a view to keeping it current, relevant and practical in a constantly changing environment. The board also identifies gaps between the current environment and the target architecture and develops plans to address these gaps. The IT Architecture Compliance Review (ITACR) group reviews submissions on architectural compliance and grants either approval or specific dispensations or refers the issue to the MITAR Board for possible inclusion in MITA. Where does architecture fit?The Architecture sits under the Information Management Strategy and the ICT Strategic Plan. It also guides and informs the development and implementation of the ICT Strategic Plan. The University's IT Architecture is managed by the Information Technology Services division on behalf the entire University, and is guided and shaped by the Enterprise Architecture Board.
