Wireless email configuration for Nokia 3G/GPRS

This is a guide on how to set up wireless GPRS email on your Nokia phone.

Before you begin

Be sure to backup all contacts, data and important information on the phone before attempting this procedure. ITS are not responsible for the loss of any data or information on your phone.

Hardware/software requirements

  • 3G Nokia mobile phone
  • Lotus Notes 8.0.1

Note

  • Your calendar or contacts cannot be synched to the phone via this method. For more information see the ‘Synchronising your Nokia phone with Lotus Notes’ information page.
  • Allow at least 3 days after your migration to Lotus Notes before attempting to synchronise.

Step 1: Configure your inbox

Note: These steps including screenshots are based on a Nokia N95. This may vary depending on your Nokia device.

  1. Select the menu key on your Nokia phone.

  2. Select Messaging>Mailbox

  4. A window will pop up informing you that no mailbox has been defined yet. Select Yes to continue.

  5. Select Start to begin the Mailbox setup wizard.

  6. Select IMAP4, then Next

  8. Enter in your Monash email address.

  9. Find your incoming mail server. This is located in the top left corner of your Lotus Notes Mail screen, eg staff-au-cluster-4b.

  11. Enter this in the Incoming mail server field. Add .its.monash.edu.au at the end eg staff-au-cluster-4b.its.monash.edu.au

  13. Enter smtp.monash.edu.au as the Outoing mail server.

  15. Select an internet access point. This will differ based on your carrier (Vodaphone shown below). Select Next.

  17. Enter a name for this mailbox, eg Monash email.

  19. Select Finish.

Step 2: Complete setup

  1. Navigate to the main messaging screen. Select the email folder created in Step 1. It will be empty.

  3. Select Options>Mail Settings.

  5. Select Connection Settings>Incoming e-mail.      

  6. Enter your Lotus Notes username and password then select Back.

  8. Select Outgoing e-mail.

  10. Enter your Lotus Notes username and password and select Back.
  11. Select Back again to return to the main screen for this email account. Select User Settings.

  13. Enter your full name and select Back.

  14. Select Back again to return to the inbox.

  16. Select Options>Retrieve e-mail>New to begin downloading your Lotus Notes emails.
