Lotus Traveler connection issues: troubleshooting

This is a guide on how to troubleshoot your connection issues when running the Lotus Traveler on Windows mobile devices.

The document is designed to help those who are experiencing unexpected errors when trying to connect to their Traveler services. Instructions may vary depending on the device used.

Before you begin

Backup all important information such as contacts on your device before attempting this procedure. ITS are not responsible for the loss of any data or information on your device.

Known issues

Connection problems have occured when using the following with some devices:

  • USB cable via Microsoft ActiveSync (PC)
  • Wi-Fi internet connection on compatible device (Wireless)
  • 3G/GPRS/HSDPA connection via a phone SIM (Wireless)
HTC mobiles such as the HTC Touch Dual 850 and Touch Diamond models have been problematic. Other devices may also experience these issues.

Step 1: Checking proxy settings

Many Telstra devices running Windows Mobile have proxies active by default. This can cause connection issues with Lotus Notes Traveler.

To find out if a proxy is active:

  1. Press Windows button.
  2. Select Settings from the Windows menu.
  3. Select the Connections tab.
  4. Select the Connections icon.
  5. Select Manage my existing connection settings.
    Note: if you cannot see this setting, please move to Step 2.
  6. Click on the Proxy Settings tab.

The proxy is active if:

  1. The This network connects to the internet checkbox is ticked.
  2. The This network connects using a proxy server box is not ticked.

Step 2: Creating a new connection

If your internet connection is still not working:

  1. Press the Windows button
  2. Select Settings from the Windows menu.
  3. a

  4. Select the Connections tab, then the Connections icon.

  6. Select the Advanced tab, then the Select Networks button.
  7.   a

  8. Under Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using: select  New button.

  10. Enter Telstra Monash Settings
  11. a

  12. Select the Proxy Settings tab. 
  13. Select This network connects to the Internet.
  14.   a

  15. Untick This network connects using a proxy server.
  16. Select the Modem tab, then New.
  17.   a

  18. Enter Telstra Monash as the connection name.
  19. Select Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) from the dropdown menu.

  21. Select  Next
  22. Enter telstra.wap. Select Next.
  23. a 

  24. Select  Finish.
  25. Select Ok.
  26. Select Telstra Monash Settings in both dropdown lists. Select Ok.
